Rebuilding the Army (Feb 07 2005 23:37 GMT) - A DAY AFTER President Bush bluntly ruled out an "artificial timetable" for withdrawal from Iraq, the Pentagon delivered a sobering follow-up: While the 15,000 additional U.S. troops deployed for last Sunday's elections will be withdrawn, the 17 remaining brigades -- 135,000 soldiers and Marines -- will be needed in Iraq at least through the end of this year. That estimate is understandable, given the continuing strength of the Sunni insurgency and the troubles in preparing Iraqi security forces. |

Peter Mandelson accuses the BBC of being biased against UKIP (Feb 07 2005 23:36 GMT) - This is an interesting titbit, in today's Guardian: Peter Mandelson has attacked the BBC's coverage of Europe and accused Today presenter John Humphrys of "virulently anti-European views". In a letter to BBC chairman Michael Grade, Mr Mandelson, the European trade commissioner, says the corporation has a "specific problem with the anti-European bias of some presenters" and said it was failing in its charter obligation to promote understanding of European affairs. I seldom listen to the... |

blog.forret.com: Folksonomizer: generic folksonomy service (Feb 07 2005 23:34 GMT) - Peter Forret proposes a centralised universal metatagging system accessible to sites which aren't natively tag-enabled. The centralised aspect makes adding extra layers of service such as relationship mapping an interesting possibility. Combine it with something like tag-stemming and you might have something. Of course, centralised can also signify single point of failure. Like the recent hacking of Acta Divina which suddenly deprived thousands of sites of their daily statistics. |
