Barrage (Feb 28 2005 23:45 GMT) - Film Reviews: A mother's love begins to smother the object of its affection in "Barrage," a subtle, but ultimately over-soft, portrayal of an intense woman afraid of losing her teenage son to his first romance. Lowbudgeter mistakes ponderousness for significance and, though it generally works as a character study, overall yarn is too transparent to be suspenseful or prevent auds jumping ahead. Pic is certain to find friends at international fests seeking Gallic flavor, but its lack of dynamism will be a barrier to international distribution. |

You Say Bug, I Say Feature (Feb 28 2005 23:45 GMT) - [Meerkat: An Open Wire Service] - Al Nye thinks Podcasting Needs Advertising. I told Al I disagreed, and here's why. It's not that I don't want and won't listen to 'casts that are commercially supported, and thus presumably have higher production values and less, shall we say, unfocused material. I want that stuff. |

Roland Piquepaille sent us this news on Japanese robotics, "A Japanese designer has developed a mannequin robot, Palette, which can adapt its movements to the shoppers passing in front of it, according to an article from Agence France-Presse (AFP), "Striking a robotic pose". Using motion-capture technology, Palette will be able to act as a supermodel.
