IMbox (Mar 02 2005 23:41 GMT) - Brief Jabber tidbits. I'm almost legendarily bad about publishing the Jabber Journal -- hey, life gets busy! -- but every day there's new Jabber stuff going on. Sometimes people send me email or chat with me over IM about new projects and applications. Other times I get interesting news in my Jabber client thanks to the magic of PubSub. |

64-bit Windows XP to be released in April (Mar 02 2005 23:39 GMT) - Microsoft has finally named a release date for its 64-bit versions of Windows XP. A Microsoft executive told an audience at the Intel Developer Forum that they intend to release its long-awaited operating system in April. This version of Windows XP is for computers based on x86-64 chips that can execute 32-bit and 64-bit code natively. While most applications will be supported in an environment where Intel supports both 64- and 32-bit applications on the same processors, there will be the need to rewrite hardware drivers to take advantage of 64-bit-capable hardware. But the advantages will be tremendous, the two noted, with Gelsinger likening the 32-bit addressable space to the palm of his hand, while the 64-bit addressable space would cover the whole of the keynote stage. |
