Frontloading your article (Mar 06 2005 14:30 GMT) - A long time ago, a young professor (I think it was this one) told me that one of the secrets of academic success was having multiple versions of a research spiel prepared. The real kicker, he said, was the thirty second elevator talk -- two to three sentences that summarize what you're doing and why it's important. That way, if you're stuck in an elevator with an important professor, you could explain what you're doing and thus get name recognition, which leads to jobs, power, tenure, and funding. I never did this as a scientist, mostly because I wasn't so into my research that I wanted to accost strange people in small enclosed spaces. This spring break I have read a number of articles. |

Alles mit Mülltüten ausstaffiert und mitten im Gebüsch - normalerweise also nicht zu sehen. Erst durch die Vorbereitungen zur Kanalerweiterung wurde es sichtbar. |
