FORMS for SEO & Web design companies.. (Mar 19 2005 23:59 GMT) - > scope creep Interesting strategy Travis. :D I never provide "quotes" I provide "estimates" that spell out that it is an estimate based on the information provided at the time and if the requirements change so to will the estimate. Then for all the additional "little jobs" I send off an estimated cost which is either accepted or not done. |

Better Presentations (Mar 19 2005 23:59 GMT) - Dave Pollard writes about Cliff Atkinson's new book "Beyond Bullet Points." What this book does is provide a process to supply the pictures to go along with the story, so your presentation becomes "a blend of movie and live performance". The process has three steps: Writing a script to focus your ideas, storyboarding the script to clarify the ideas, and producing the script to engage the audience. My previous posts have told you about the art of crafting a good story. |

Unearthed (Mar 19 2005 23:59 GMT) - When silence falls, and as words Are blinded of meaning by A sudden flood, and as water of time Continues to tunnel into memory, This finger, tracing these loops Of words, leaning forward Into the light from the window Falling across this postcard, Remembers the nape of your Neck, that bone curving into A note of a song under a dark Curtain of hair, and calls out Your familiar & distant name. |

U. of Hawaii's library reopens after major flood (Mar 19 2005 23:59 GMT) - On March 29, five months after the Manoa flood swept through the University of Hawai'i campus, inundating the basement of Hamilton Library, among other buildings, Hamilton will be almost completely reopened to the public. Tina Rutsch says she's going to wear a party hat. "I'm really excited about having the access back," said Rutsch, 26, an American Studies graduate student ... "Just being able to browse is helpful in my research," she said. "I'll look for one book and then seeing the ones around it I'll think, 'Hey, that will be good, too. |

Does anybody Still Employ the L Word? (Mar 19 2005 23:59 GMT) - mdoneil writes "Steve Otto a columnist with the Tampa Tribune had a nice article on the obfuscation of the terms we use to define our profession. Dr. Kathleen de la Peña McCook, a LISNews contributor, and always interensting speaker was features prominently in this article! A nice article says the traditionalist in me." |

Who reads blogs? (Mar 19 2005 23:58 GMT) - Again via Seth, even though I don't find it (anymore) appealing to write about metadata (bloggin' about bloggin') the Blogads survey about who reads blogs is worth a look. So 75% of the readers are male, the most of the readers are not doing bad financially (in the 60k-90k $$ range), they're either students (10% - highest) or computer pros (8.1%), actively involved in the community (not a surprise here - my theory is that blogging is actually about giving) and spend about 10 hours a week reading blogs (that's more than an hour a day). Surprisingly 72. |

Chronicles of Johnny K - 2 (Mar 19 2005 23:58 GMT) - Seated across a table, on one of the outside patios of a café, he listens to Johnny K talk, which JK occasionally breaks off to take a drag from the cigarette smoldering in an ashtray, a coal on a spring day, the smell that stays in one’s hair. There is no method in JK’s talk. |

Of illness, films and Linux (Mar 19 2005 23:58 GMT) - Last night Rachel, Kirk and I decided to go to the cinema to see some films before we all went home for Easter. The first one we went in for was the animated film Robots. As expected, this was a family Easter feel good experience, and for me at least it didn't disappoint. There were some genuinely heart warming parts throughout, although the plot in general was fairly predictable, and I was laughing most of the way through so it must have been good. We also saw a trailer for the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy before the film, which looked really cool -- especially Marvin the Paranoid Android who made me laugh every time he said something. |

Blog pimpin' - Hot Sauce Blog (Mar 19 2005 23:57 GMT) - I love niche food blogs. They're topics are so well defined and shows the writer's passion for a topic some of us may take for granted. Take for example the Hot Sauce Blog. All you wanted to know about hot sauces and other related food items, on one single web page. Mmm... |
