No Friday without Monday (Mar 31 2005 23:55 GMT) - The good people of the Haldern festival seem to be working hard to give us an exciting line-up once more. I almost feel like they’ve been religiously reading this site and tried to give me many of the people I’ve been writing about. We have Franz Ferdinand who played a fantastic gig at Hurricane last year and in many other place as people say; |

I want the real menu. Not the Chinerican one! (Mar 31 2005 23:55 GMT) - So we went to the Pung Mei Spring of China restaurant that was formerly a Ponderosa. They probably snagged the Ponderosa since all the old Taco Bells are now Gyro Shops and there aren't a whole lot of other vacant old restaurants around. The food was good but I noticed something as we left. We were given the "American" menu. Just because we were the only 2 displaced white people of European descent doesn't mean we should be treated differently. |

Istanbul's Answer To The Hudson (Mar 31 2005 23:55 GMT) - Last fall, before the Marmara Perea opened in Istanbul near the Taksim/Beyoglu area, Wallpaper* Navigator called the property "Istanbul's answer to the Hudson." In actuality, if early reports are to be believed, we would add that MP Istanbul has a leg up on the Hudson--service with a smile! According to a recent guest: I was a solo traveller and the staff went out of their way to welcome me. The room service was prompt and courteous. |

Johnny Damon's Ritz Top Pumpkin Drop (Mar 31 2005 23:55 GMT) - According to Johnny Damon himself, the Red Sox center fielder and his new wife spent the fall throwing water balloons from their 34th-floor Ritz Carlton condo in Boston. Oh it gets weirder. Apparently, when the Sox were down 2-0 to the Yankees last October, Damon chucked a stolen pumpkin off the 34th story to try and "change his luck." I let that baby go and I could see it drop all the way down to the ground, before it smashed into a million pieces. I was sure our luck had changed. |

Googolplex: a virtual reality movie theater (Mar 31 2005 23:55 GMT) - Here's an interesting idea: Googolplex Theaters creates a virtual reality movie theater so that, effectively, everyone gets their own screen. Of course, once you simulate a screen in VR, why stop there? You've already got 3-D in the display, and between the backlog of 3D movies and a decade or so of computer animation, there [...] |

Silicon Valley Lan Party (Mar 31 2005 23:54 GMT) - Ok, I'm starting to get serious about a Silicon Valley area lan party. I really need a venue though, and I've been searching with Google, but feet on the ground, and first hand experience will trump that. I'm looking at say needing 10,000 square feet of space or more, and a venue that is willing to allow 24 hours a day. If it is something that is privately owned then I'm even more excited. Do any of you guys perhaps have any ideas? |

Fred Webber On CPUs (Mar 31 2005 23:54 GMT) - Well yesterday a lot of us were down at AMD for their briefing on some stuff I can talk about like Pacifica, and other stuff I couldn't. Tech Report and Anandtech have details up on their talks to Fred Webber. I on the other hand had a more exciting talk with Fred showing him my PSP. Then later on in breakout sessions paired with Brandon from Firing Squad we got some additional PSP talk in, but also some on the CPU side. Thread parallelism was something he definitely seeing overtaking the CPU industry. |
