Exploding Toads Baffle Experts (Apr 25 2005 05:24 GMT) - Hundreds of toads have met an unexplained, explosive demise in Germany in recent days, it was reported on Saturday. According to reports from animal welfare workers and veterinarians as many as a thousand of the amphibians have perished after their bodies swelled to bursting point and their entrails were propelled for up to a metre. It is like “a science fiction film”, according to Werner Smolnik of a nature protection society in the northern city of Hamburg, where the phenomenon of the exploding toad has been observed. |

Earth Day at Avacado Lake (Apr 25 2005 05:23 GMT) - Environmentally conscious individuals, who love their planet, celebrate at Avocado Lake today. Tables and chairs set around a serine ground, while music from local bands play, like Coyote five and Green Machine. Booths were set up as well like WILPF, Earth First and Fresno Community Science Workshops. Children gathered around Earth First while they painted faces and handed out freshly squeezed orange juice. Fresno Community Science Workshops gave science demos to children on how to make Flying Birds, an inventive way to make science fun out of recycled materials. |

Taken In By The Citizen Journalist Report (Apr 25 2005 05:22 GMT) - On Friday, I posted on the Michele Catalano interview over at The Citizen Journalist Report. There was some debate over whether the interview was fake or not because it was recorded in advance and because Michele read her opening statement, but I didn't seriously consider that they faked it for several reasons. Michele has a temper and her and I seem to remember her and Bill getting into a nasty little public "blog kerfluffle" a while back, so the idea of Bill asking irritating questions to her and Michele flipping out definitely seemed plausible. Plus, none of it was funny (although Michele flipping out was certainly entertaining) and all three of them were publicly denying that it was faked: --- Michele Catalano: |

The price of fame (Apr 25 2005 05:22 GMT) - Rogers Cadenhead has a post up about his brief brush with fame. I watched the Today show clip and thought he came off very well. And the whole time I watched it, I was paralyzed by anxiety. The one thing I knew for sure was that I never want to be on TV like that. I think I can hold my own in conversation, and heck, I enjoy job interviews, but the idea of being interviewed by Katie Couric on national television is terrifying. |

Living by the browser (Apr 25 2005 05:22 GMT) - Rael Dornfest has a bit up at the O'Reilly Radar about how he's migrating his computer usage to Web applications, and has a good list of the ones he relies upon. I've been thinking of doing something similar lately. The big change for me came when I realized that I strongly prefer Gmail to Thunderbird. I'm not even sure exactly why. I also use del. |
