Is "Employed" Out-dated? [Alastair Irvine] (Apr 28 2005 15:59 GMT) - I rather think it is. The difference between being employed and being self-employed (/owning your own business) is becoming more and more slight. The core legal difference is that an employee has the right to expect more work (this really means "has the right to get paid even if there isn't any work for them to do"). This is referred to as "the mutuality of obligations". But out-sourcing (in its many forms) is increasingly making this redundant. |

Partnering v. Out-sourcing [Alastair Irvine] (Apr 28 2005 15:59 GMT) - A sales and marketing woman, an IT guy, a Finance Director and an entrepreneur are sitting in the pub. They have a few jars, scribble the business plan for their lingerie business on the back of a postcard, sign the partnership agreement and open the shop doors within a month. Everyone does splendidly, rakes in the cash and retires to the sun. ... La Senza (this is fictional) are having a troublesome period. |

Viva La Resolution (Apr 28 2005 15:58 GMT) - This is a good story, and it does two things relevant to my previous posts: 1. It illustrates how one might improve one's work by keeping an eye out for auspicious signs, and 2. It backs up my claim that "sometimes it's more important what you don't do than what you do. |
