Obesity and dementia link discovered (Apr 29 2005 15:49 GMT) - If you're really fat in your 40s, you might not think about it much in later years, since, as Palisade notes, it looks like you'll have a greater risk of Alzheimer's disease and dementia. In a study that tracked people from their early to mid 40s for an average of 27 years, researchers found a progressively higher risk of dementia that correlated to obesity levels at the start of the study. Sadly, the article then goes on to talk about the possibility of fish oils making things better, when you can get the same fatty acids from plant-based sources without the traces of brain-altering chemicals like mercury and other heavy metals found in most fish. |
