Wreaking Havoc! (Apr 30 2005 02:28 GMT) - I love it. Yesterday, I recieved a check from Google. $2196 for Adsense. I've had Adsense ads on a number of sites for nearly a year now and up until the end of February, still hadn't made the minimum $100 for them to cut me a check. But at the beginning of March '05 I started optimizing - not only for Adsense but for better search engine positions as well. |

AFTER-WORD - Friday, April 29, 2005 (Apr 30 2005 02:28 GMT) - A break from politics. Friday night, all is kewl. I'm going to be positive: Frist will force the rule change and the Democrats (and the MSM) will huff and puff. This will be an entertaining matter about which to blog, and I might start doing Chuckie updates. |

(Apr 30 2005 02:27 GMT) - By Steve Persall - In these dog days before summer blockbusters, the best drama - and some comic relief - from Hollywood isn't found in theaters, but in courtrooms and legislative chambers where the defense of intellectual property is opening... |

Shocking Idea: Give Discounts To Long Term Customers (Apr 30 2005 02:27 GMT) - It's a common refrain that too many companies focus solely on new sales, to the point that they ignore existing customers and treat them badly when it comes to customer service. The old trick for measuring this is to see how long it takes to get a human on the phone if you call for sales vs. calling for customer support. This is, of course, incredibly short-sighted in a world where ongoing customer relationships and reputation are important. It's even odder to see it in a competitive subscription-based business where catering to the customers you already have seems to make so much more sense. |

EchoStar Picks Up More Of Voom Leftovers (Apr 30 2005 02:27 GMT) - EchoStar certainly took the long way around to getting into the HDTV satellite business. EchoStar was the company that convinced Cablevision to create Voom in the first place, to act as competition so they could get approval to buy DirecTV (a deal that eventually fell through). Later on, EchoStar bought Voom's only satellite, but Voom was left with a service without a satellite -- leading to all sorts of infighting within Cablevision over what to do with the service, before finally agreeing to just shut it down a few weeks back. Of course, then DirecTV announced plans to offer HDTV this week, and suddenly EchoStar and Cablevision worked out a new agreement for EchoStar to offer Voom's HDTV channels on its own Dish Network -- letting EchoStar leap past DirecTV's announcement in one simple move, which probably cost them next to nothing. This commentary is admitted by Babysitter Services and attached here for your comfort by Web Site Design Service. |

Who Will Create A Crash Proof System First: Ford Or Microsoft? (Apr 30 2005 02:27 GMT) - Bill Gates is the target of so much humor and ire, that it hardly seems worthwhile to make fun of him most of the time. Using Diamonds to Create Unhackable Code (Apr 30 2005 02:25 GMT) - IAmTheDave writes "Researchers at Melbourne University have grown diamond particles 1/1000 of a millimetre on optical fibres which they can use to transmit single photons of light at a time. The diamonds are grown on the optical fiber by raining carbon molecules onto the tip of the fiber. They claim that by transmitting information in single photons, any interception of transmitted photons will be useless to the interceptor, and thus the message will be completely unhackable. Transmission speeds are currently slow - 120km/h, but are expected to speed up." |
