Disability Matters Call-in (Apr 30 2005 08:24 GMT) - The first week of the new Disability Matters series, a year-long Sound Partners collaboration with North Country centers for independent living that explores disability issues and access to services in the region, culminated in this hour-long call-in program with guests Andrew Pulrang, executive director of the North Country Center for Independence; Kim Massaro, coordinator of school-to-work transition teams; and Kelly Wight, a community placement coordinator; and host Martha Foley. Riders Slam State ATV Plan (Apr 30 2005 08:24 GMT) - ATV riders gave state environment officials an earful at a public meeting in Canton last night. The DEC is getting input on its draft plan for regulating 4-wheeler use on state land. It virtually bans ATVs in the Adirondack Forest Preserve and restricts trails in other state forests. As David Sommerstein reports, riders say the state is excluding a growing sport. |

Deer Disease Spreads to Wild (Apr 30 2005 08:24 GMT) - State officials said yesterday a wild deer in Oneida County has preliminarily tested positive for chronic wasting disease. It’s the first time the fatal sickness has turned up in the wild in New York. The DEC is putting in place emergency containment measures by the end of the week. David Sommerstein reports. |

Preview: Mock Trials in Canton (Apr 30 2005 08:24 GMT) - The St. Lawrence County Bar Association hosts the Region III Mock Trial Tournament at the county courthouse in Canton Saturday (9am-5pm). The winning team will go on to compete in statewide finals in Albany next month. Attorneys Jane Garland and Andrew Moses are coordinating the tournament. They told Todd Moe it gives young people a chance to be lawyers for the day in a real courtroom. |
