Der Tag neigt sich dem Ende ... (May 05 2005 23:44 GMT) - Und was bleibt zu sagen ...Heut habsch mir meinen allerersten Blog angelegt. |

Pageant would rather die than do swimsuits (May 05 2005 23:43 GMT) - It's sad the annual Junior Miss competition is shutting down after 48 years of providing high school seniors a chance to strut their stuff in a wide range of skills and talents. It's sad, too, that henceforth there will be fewer scholarships for exceptionally promising young women. A news story on this institution's demise explains: [...] |

Money laundering crooks face high-tech sleuths (May 05 2005 23:43 GMT) - By Daniel Sorid BOSTON (Reuters) - Governments around the world have found a high-tech ally in their fight against tax cheats, money launderers, corporate crooks, and perhaps the most pernicious of all bureaucratic enemies, paperwork. The technology, a computer language developed by accountants, turns financial information into the equivalent of a bar code, allowing software to scan and |

At a recent computer security conference in Las Vegas, I was struck by the fact that every computer security |

More on the Providence Budget (May 05 2005 23:43 GMT) - I think Cicilline gave a pretty great speech the other night. In particular, I appreciate immensely that he didn't indicate that we'd have no tax increase this year -- we very well may be in a position where we're legally bound to raise taxes. Where's my Peter Snow? (May 05 2005 23:43 GMT) - Picture the scene. There I am, with my nice hot cup of tea settling down to watch the marathon coverage of the 2005 UK General Election. Of which, one of the highlights is undoubtedly Peter Snow and his Swingometer and many many other cool visual aids, now aided and grafted by virtual set technology. But what happens? Instead of Dimbelby, Paxman and Kaplinsky, we get Huw Edwards anchoring the BBC Wales coverage of the UK election coverage, ably assisted by David Williams and some woman who was probably going to regret her choice of wearing a black top for the next six hours. |
