Sun completes StorageTek purchase (Aug 31 2005 23:43 GMT) - (InfoWorld) - As expected, Sun Microsystems Wednesday completed its $4.1 billion purchase of Storage Technology, a deal that was first announced June 2. Under the terms of the agreement, StorageTek stockholders will receive $37 in cash for each StorageTek share, according to a Sun news release. Sun nabbed StorageTek in its largest-ever cash acquisition in an effort to beef up its storage and data-management portfolio. StorageTek's main business has been in tape-automation and backup appliances, but the company has expanded its product line in the past year to offer disk-based backup and information lifecycle management (ILM) software. |

iiNet Eyes 300 Exchanges by 2006 (Aug 31 2005 23:42 GMT) - iiNet has revealed that it may expand its DSL network to at least 260 exchanges as part of a $34.5 million upgrade program next year. iiNet, Australia's third largest internet provider, expects to have DSL equipment installed in 211 exchanges by January when it completes the third stage of its roll-out. The internet provider's managing director Michael Malone said iiNet was planning a fourth stage which would involve a further 50 to 100 exchanges. |

Believe Me, You're Not Architecting (Aug 31 2005 23:42 GMT) - So I said yesterday that I'm talking about architecture, not architects. However, today I am going to discuss the word architect and the dramatic misuse of the word I see pretty regularly. Or at least, I see now because Paul Preiss of IASA mentioned it when we were hanging out at TechEd. "Architect" is a noun, not a verb. Usually, when I hear the term "architect" used as a verb, it's being used as a synonym for design. |
