"Triple play" will drive demand for fiber access - IDC (Sep 27 2005 23:45 GMT) - [InfoWorld TechWatch] - Businesses and consumers in growing numbers are ready to add network capacity through increased fiber access, a turnaround that could prompt wide-ranging IT purchasing decisions, IDC says. The emergence of "triple play" - the integration of voice, video and data services on a single broadband connection - is driving service provider demand for more access network bandwidth. IPTV, HDTV, and VOD, in particular, are driving service providers around the world to upgrade their access networks with the capacity of fiber and the equipment that goes with it. |

The Girl in the Cafe (Sep 27 2005 23:44 GMT) - Recommended The Movie A curious blend of romantic drama and political polemic, The Girl in the Cafe is a film that wins you over with the awkward chemistry shared by its lead actors but pulls away towards the climax with its strident call to arms. Penned by Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually) and directed by David Yates, this relatively lightweight effort establishes such goodwill with the first two-thirds that the jarring final act really leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Wild Life (Sep 27 2005 23:44 GMT) - Rent It Shinji Aoyama you are a madman and I love you. Sometimes the whole auteur theory can make you forget that some directors will try just about anything. Like Howard Hawks helming films that ranged from The Big Sleep, to Bringing up Baby, The Thing, and Rio Bravo. Likewise, my first introduction to Shinji Aoyaya was the slow and subdued arthouse drama Eureka, so that is what I expected form him. But each film I've seen from him since has been in an all together different genre and style, from the psychological horror Em Emblaming, the Maiku Hama mystery A Forest with No Name, and, now, the slyly funny and cinematically frisky gangster flick Wild Life (1997). |
