borat might be cyberstalking me... (Oct 11 2005 23:59 GMT) - The background: this past spring, I interviewed for a position on an extremely secretive TV show in a nondescript office in Beverly Hills. They couldn't tell me the name of the show. But A) one of the big qualifications was that I would have to be able to lie to people to get interviews, B) the executive producer was British and C) they asked me twice if I had ever seen "Da Ali G Show." In the end, I didn't get the job. |

Open Thread: Angels/White Sox (Oct 11 2005 23:59 GMT) - Angels have Paul Byrd, while the White Sox counter with Jose Contreras. Who're we rooting for at Red Reporter? I think I'm going with the White Sox. Not sure if it's too early to call the Reds a long suffering franchise or not, but I feel some kinship with White Sox fans either way. Plus the Angels just won a championship, so it's tough to really care in their case. |

FO in midseason form (Oct 11 2005 23:59 GMT) - From Lancaster: Though the Reds' time on the field ended only a week ago, general manager Dan O'Brien and his staff are already well into their workload for the fall. Upon returning Sunday evening from several days of organizational meetings in Sarasota, O'Brien already was looking ahead to Tuesday, when he will fly to Phoenix to check out the Reds' Arizona Fall League contingent. That trip will segue into a fact-finding mission for O'Brien and assistant GM Dean Taylor during the World Series, where the Reds will begin preliminary trade discussions with various teams. "So there's a lot of groundwork that's going to be laid" in the next few weeks, O'Brien said, but don't expect any actual transactions until sometime in November. |

Reds Minor League Roundup (Oct 11 2005 23:59 GMT) - minorleaguebaseball.com has a season review of the Reds minor leagues that you can find here. The only part I found all that interesting was Chris Denorfia and Phil Dumatrait being selected as the two players who had "breakout" seasons. I agree on Denorfia, but Dumatrait seemed to be playing with fire all season, walking 70 in 127.2 innings. |

Later today NerdTV should have ... (Oct 11 2005 23:59 GMT) - Later today NerdTV should have the interview with yours truly. When you download it, you should of course use the BitTorrent option. When doing so, you're saving Cringeley the cost of serving the content, and you're helping your fellow nerd who has another "seed" to get the bits from, and you're stickin it to the man by using BitTorrent for a non-infringing application, which will make it harder for them to sue it out of existence. There are a bunch of excellent BitTorrent clients you can use, the original from Bram himself, or there's Azureus, which works great and has more features. To get the fastest downloads, configure your router properly. |

So, I voted for Charon. |
