Malcolm Xerxes is dead (Oct 20 2005 22:58 GMT) - I am feeling a bit strange at the moment. It's been a weird week in Internet Land for little ol' Darren. In a different life, I run a music discussion site and it turns out that one of my members, who had not posted for a while, had committed suicide. This guy, Malcolm Xerxes, was a fellow Brit relocated to Canada and we'd had numerous dealings via the site. He came across as a little eccentric but a decent, friendly guy. |

Chitika, the new blog ad unit... (Oct 20 2005 22:58 GMT) - I've spent the past few days searching for affiliate programs, especially ones that would work with Google Adsense. Let me tell you, there's a lot out there. A good many of the programs are contextually targeted, meaning they would directly violate Google's terms of service. There's a few, however, that are either not contextually targeted, or allow you to choose whether or not ads are contextually targeted, or done via keyword. First off, why don't I want to give up Adsense. |

Aperture + iPhoto = A Better Flickr? (Oct 20 2005 22:57 GMT) - I was watching a Quicktime video about Apple's new Aperture application, trying to find out more information. During the tour, there was a section that described how you can add keywords to pictures making it easy to search. A lot of other photo management apps do this as well, including iPhoto. But then I thought, since this will integrate with iPhoto (which allows you to share pictures), I wondered how close this combination is to competing with web-based photo-sharing sites. Keep in mind that iPhoto does do tagging. |
