PHP Blog: 42 Deadly Ad Copy Sins That People Make (Oct 23 2005 23:26 GMT) - I have read thousands of ad copies online and offline over my lifetime. I have read excellent ad copies that made me buy right away and some that may have had a decent product, but had a poor ad copy that turned me away. Now that I am in business, I have written some of my own ad copies. Some of them have worked, some of them have bombed. The key is to keep changing and testing your ad copy, don't just write one and then stop. |

Finding Used Aircraft For Sale and Classified Listings (Oct 23 2005 23:26 GMT) - A few friends and I are thinking about buying a used and fairly inexpensive (as far as planes go) airplane. In doing so, I've been trying to find all the on-line aircraft classifieds--at least those that seem to matter. I've found that there's no shortage of sites offering classified airplane listings. This seems like a market ripe for a search engine to aggregate all the listings. Anyway, here's what I've discoverd so far. |

Slang Terms for Parts of the Body (Oct 23 2005 23:26 GMT) - Who needs George Carlin when you've got Body Parts Slang from Wikibooks? In the popular jargon of many cultures, the use of sexual slang is a form of humour or euphemism that often creates controversy over its popular use. Sexual humor is seen in many circles as crude and unsophisticated, as well as insulting towards the subject it describes. Nevertheless, sexual humor has been popular since the earliest days of civilisation, and crude humor is seen as having its own... |

Mutual Funds Investing in China? (Oct 23 2005 23:26 GMT) - It occurs to me that an easy way to start investing in the up-and-coming Chinese economy is to find a mutual fund (or set of funds) managed by an experienced fund manager with a focus on growing companies in China. Morningstar is the first place I'd start to find funds that match my interests. Using their Fund Screener, I can search their find database using the criteria I'm after (fund type, ratings/risk, returns, etc). From there I can research them... |

October Web Search Referral Statistics (Oct 23 2005 23:26 GMT) - I was looking at some updated stats for my web site and decided to plug the numbers into Excel so that I could more easily visualize the relationships. The chart below is one of several I produced. It shows the percentage of search referrals I can attribute to each of the major search engines for the month of October 2005. What's interesting to note is that neither AOL or MSN are "major search players" if you look at these numbers... |

Robotic Jacket Helps Stroke Victims (Oct 23 2005 23:26 GMT) - Researchers at the Osaka University and Activelink Co. in Japan have created a robotic jacket to help stroke victims recover from partial paralysis. The jacket has four sensors to detect muscle movements in the patient's healthy arm and wrist. The jacket analyzes this data and sends compressed air to the affected arm, where eight artificial muscles affixed there expand and contract in the same way as the movement in the healthy arm. Researchers hope repeated therapy will bring back the regular functioning of the damaged limb. |

Velociraptor Is a Cling On Bird of Prey (Oct 23 2005 23:26 GMT) - It's said that the Velociraptor is a bird-like dino with claws used for supposedly slashing up its prey to disembowel its victims. However, scientists have tested that theory by using robotics and have found that instead the Velociraptor use their claws to cling on to their prey and likely bite a victim to death rather than claw it to death. Dr Phil Manning and his team, from the Manchester Museum, University of Manchester tested a robotic arm fitted with a life-like dromaeosaur claw made of Kevlar and carbon-fibre-coated aluminium to thrust it into the flesh of anything from pig to crocodile carcasses. Instead of producing the expected slashing wounds, the robotic impacts created only small, rounded punctures, therefore dispelling the assumption that the claws were used for slashing. |
