SEO Myths (Dec 01 2005 22:59 GMT) - Quote: "A duplicate content filter exists, do you dispute that?" I don't. What I would dispute is that it is in any way a bad thing (except perhaps for scraper sites, so that's a big plus already). Of course, I am coming at this based on my own experience with somewhere in excess of 600 clients, many with multiple domain strategies, not one of whom has ever had any problem caused by the duplicate content filter. |

How Ever Do the Handcuffed Suicide Pactists Manage? (Dec 01 2005 22:59 GMT) - In the recommended New York Times article on Iraq propaganda I linked to below, there was another quote worth pondering: "I'm not surprised this goes on," said Michael Rubin, who worked in Iraq for the Coalition Provisional Authority in 2003 and 2004. "Informational operations are a part of any military campaign," he added. "Especially in an atmosphere where terrorists and insurgents - replete with oil boom cash - do the same. We need an even playing field, but cannot fight with both hands tied behind our backs. |

Internet Age Advice: Taking The Shortcut (Dec 01 2005 22:59 GMT) - A lot of succeeding in this internet age is knowing when to take the shortcut. We want our work to be well-done, professional and thorough. We don't want to leave dangling web pages or slow-to-load jpegs. So often when the opportunity arises to use the quick edit we might hesitate to leave any corner unswept.A prime technical example: |

Some good quotes about Autodesk MapServer (Dec 01 2005 22:58 GMT) - I?ve gotten a ton of email about this subject (probably more than anything but ArcGIS Explorer) and I?ll pass along some interesting tidbits. Consumer Networking (Dec 01 2005 22:58 GMT) - Wouldn't it be nice if "consumers" were well enough networked and well enough informed that companies just can't get away with screwing them over?We seem to be getting closer, probably thanks to blogs more than anything else.Sony BMG released more than 20 million CDs that, if you played them on your windows computer, would install a Root Kit, which would hide itself in your operating system, mess with what you were doing, and report back your activities to Sony. A Root Kit is a hacker technology, for installing hostile programs on your system, while they remain undetected and trick the system into making it look like nothing at all is going on. Sony did that deliberately, as DRM (Digital Rights Management), to try to make sure you didn't violate the rules they'd like you to follow. |

Mystery snails... (Dec 01 2005 22:58 GMT) - I have noticed some snails in one of the latest breeding tanks, I've setup in the fish house for the Dwarf Hoplo catfish Hoplosternum pectorale. This is the only tank with snails, so I am a little surprised as to where this single snail has come from. Now there are two more, the fish tank, associated equipment and furnishings have not been used for over 18 years. It seems I've just added water, and a snail has appeared! |
