Researchers Want Right to Bypass Protected Spyware (Dec 02 2005 17:43 GMT) - Dotnaught writes "Computer security researchers Professor Edward Felten and Alex Halderman have asked the U.S. Copyright Office for an exemption (pdf) to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) so that they can circumvent copy protection technology used to protect spyware. The DMCA currently makes it illegal to bypass digital locks almost regardless of what they protect or the user's intent. Caffeine Helps Short-Term, Hurts Long-Term (Dec 02 2005 17:41 GMT) - Playbomb points to a new study from Austria that shows that caffeine stimulates areas of the brain that govern short-term memory and attention. What the study fails to address, it seems, is the long terms effect of over-caffeination, which includes premature aging of the brain. It also fails to mention that your brain grows accustom to caffeine use over time and the amount required to receive a benefit increases until your refrigerator is filled shelf-to-shelf with Mountain Dew and the humming in your brain can actually be heard by neighbors… or maybe that was just me. Actually, I went cold Turkey on caffeine about 10 years ago after doing some research on the topic and deciding that my already tiny brain was being turned into a prune by the hyper juice. |
