Time and Story (Dec 04 2005 05:26 GMT) - I'm working on this story where each of the characters is living the story from a different direction--one is moving through it linearly, one backwards, and one randomly: He'd asked the guy in charge of 'expedition' planning about her. "If you're building a time machine, Megan Whiterose is the one person you absolutely want on your team," Jack Parrish had said. "We're not building a time machine," Dylan said with a snap. Jack rolled his eyes. |

ScAlito: Shoot First, Ask No Questions Later (Dec 04 2005 05:23 GMT) - via digby and TalkLeft, this new revelation of the extreme nature of ScAlito's views: Alito wrote that he saw no constitutional problem with a police officer shooting and killing an unarmed teenager who was fleeing after a $10 home burglary. "I think the shooting [in this case] can be justified as reasonable," Alito wrote in a 1984 memo to Justice Department officials. Because the officer could not know for sure why a suspect was fleeing, the courts should not set a rule forbidding the use of deadly force, he said. "I do not think the Constitution provides an answer to the officer's dilemma," Alito advised. |

First, the honest conservative, Bruce Fein: Conservative lawyer Bruce Fein, who was a Justice Department official in the Reagan administration, said he is baffled that Alito is pulling back from his well-argued 1985 memos. "I think the administration is misreading the Senate and the public, because you end up losing more if your credibility is strained and people think you're playing them for dupes," Fein said. Now the do anything to win, embrace dishonesty conservative, Janet LaRue: |
