For the Islamic world, it will be impossible. That is the root cause of Islamic radicalism, and there is nothing that the West can do to change it. " |

Warner launches "Cordless Recordings" e-label with six-band roster (Dec 04 2005 23:54 GMT) - Thought the label was conceptually launched in August 2005, Warner has christened their new digital-only label, Cordless Recordings and signed six acts to the non-exclusive label. The conglomerate which also includes Atlantic, Elektra, Lava, Maverick, Nonesuch, Reprise, Rhino, Sire, Warner Bros. Word and incubator East/West explained the plans with the goal of changing the "album" format of distribution which is ubiquitous in the industry by instead promoting smaller quarterly releases of "clusters" of songs. These clusters would consist of three or more songs by an artist. Though the most striking part of the plan is to avoid the current model which was decried by Steve Albini and Courtney Love and allow artists to retain ownership of masters and copyrights while signed to the label. |

United Kingdom - Pickled Dick (Dec 04 2005 23:54 GMT) - Since most of the Punknews.org staff is from North America, it seemed appropriate to enlist the aid of our friends at Europunk in order to spotlight some acts making waves on the other side of the Atlantic. This update comes from Tom Adriany editor of Europunk and a native of Brussels, Belgium: Bringing the same infectious poppunk that doesn't take anything serious, this UK band called Pickled Dick made me grab back to my Greenday catalogue around the Kerplunk era. As much as I respect Greenday for the road they took with "American Idiot", there's still a part of me that misses the time when they wrote songs about being dominated love slaves, but Pickled Dick does a swell job of re-creating that same vibe. |
