Changes (Dec 13 2005 20:51 GMT) - We've been talking about a move to New York ever since I moved back from Seattle, just over a year ago. (Boston, as much as we like it, has always been a way station) Recent events have moved up our timeline (which had been lazily extending itself for months) and now we're looking to make a move by the end of the year. (as in 18 days and counting) Housing So we're looking for housing, either short term, or not, immediately, if not sooner. Any tips would be great. (ideally something more then "Brooklyn, baby, Brooklyn") Work And I'm taking this change to seriously start looking for the next gig, which has been on the back burner. |

The Single Gal and Politics (Dec 13 2005 20:50 GMT) - As the news keeps rolling in about Ron Gonzales, his censure and moves to possibly oust him from office, I am struck by the lack of knowledge most young people in San Jose have about their own city?s politics. As I have been talking to friends, there are few of them who follow what is happening in the news, or even have a vague knowledge of Ron Gonzales and his scandal-plagued term as mayor. Is it apathy at its finest? |

Tiny online footprint (Dec 13 2005 20:50 GMT) - Maybe I'm odd. Maybe all of us who spend a major portion of our lives interacting or existing in the online world are odd. But it struck me today: so many of my friends, aquaintances, and co-workers have an absolutely tiny online footprint. They simply can't be found online. |

Do You TiVo? (Dec 13 2005 20:49 GMT) - I'm trying to get a hold of tapes of local TV coverage of the Columbine High School shooting on 4-20-1999. The local stations here have been pretty much unresponsive, saying they only keep video for 30 days. I know there are people out there who tape TV coverage of major events, just as they save newspapers from those days. Heck, I have an all-day tape of NBC's coverage of 9-11. And both the News and the Post extras from that day. |

la Virgen de Guadalupe 101 (Dec 13 2005 20:49 GMT) - It's embarrassing and shameful that I've lived in L.A. for so long without knowing the story behind la Virgen de Guadalupe. Hispanic Catholics celebrated La Virgen de Guadalupe last Sunday to commemorate an event that was said to have occured on December 9th, 1531. Juan Diego, a humble devout commoner, was walking to church, crossing over Tepeyac Hill. |

We found the Whole Food?s on Santa Monica alright ? abuzz with yoga-pant wearing yummy moms and buffed actor-waiters who were kindly ignoring us and our big white SUV plumped in the parking lot. |

Pet Insurance Revisited: Self-Insuring Update (Dec 13 2005 20:48 GMT) - A while ago I asked out loud "Is Pet Insurance Worth It?". My conclusion was no, so we started putting $20 a month into an ING sub-account instead. Well, we have a spaniel, and he got an ear infection. We ended up taking him to the vet today since it was getting worse. |
