Dispelling PR Lies - Myth Number Four [Chris Street] (Dec 14 2005 14:24 GMT) - Another week, another set of blah blah blah to say bye-bye to... Today, and a favourite objection I hear is from those outside the industry, namely "Isn't it a waste of time using PR around holiday times, such as Christmas?" Absolutely NOT! Think about it... As an SME business owner, hitting the Christmas or Summer holidays, for example, you may be looking to submit a piece of news or a snappy picture story into selected Media and industry magazines. |

Microsoft patch Tuesday for December (Dec 14 2005 14:24 GMT) - Microsoft issued two new patches and re-issued one other patch on their monthly patch Tuesday. MS05-054 is "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer," yes, IE, that exploit delivery engine that also displays web pages. Get it patched, and use it only when absolutely necessary! MS05-055 is a very specific patch for Windows 2000 SP4 that patches an exploit which would allow an elevation of privileges. MS05-050, "Vulnerability in DirectShow Could Allow Remote Code Execution" was re-released to for a "revised version" of the security update for users of Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP SP1 and Windows 2003 - sounds like a patch to the patch. |

Santa is way too fat! - School choir sings. (Dec 14 2005 14:23 GMT) - In a refreshing, although somewhat strange, piece of non-PC Christmas celebration I heard the school choir of the day in Garema Place singing this chorus. Santa Claus, Santa Claus, You are way too fat. I was happy sleeping, but now my bed is flat. Santa Claus, Santa Claus, How much do you weight? I'm glad I'm not a reindeer, Pulling your Christmas sleigh. |

Samsung HP-R5072 50" Widescreen Flat Panel HD-Ready Plasma TV (Dec 14 2005 14:22 GMT) - Samsung HP-R5072 50" Widescreen Flat Panel HD-Ready Plasma TV"Samsung was founded in 1938 as a fish and fruit exporter on the Korean peninsula. Today Samsung has grown into a massive, multi-industry company and is a respected manufacturer of consumer electronics around the globe. By delivering lower-cost products that exceeded the quality of no-name manufactures but don't live up to the high-standards of first-tier manufacturers like Sony and Panasonic, Samsung has carved out significant market especially through sales in department stores and consumer electronics mega-stores. The Samsung SP-R4232 42-inch Plasma TV, though well designed and packed with a jaw-dropping array of inputs, comes up short in picture quality, a must have characteristic for a 42-inch plasma television. Darks were very good, as should be expected from a plasma display, and bright scenes displayed well too. |

Who Died in New Orleans? (Dec 14 2005 14:21 GMT) - Michelle Malkin is either irredeemably stupid or unabashedly duplicitous. Korean Cellphones Are Smarter, Part MMVI (Dec 14 2005 14:21 GMT) - South Korea's three main mobile communications service providers—SK Telecom, KTF and LG Telecom—have agreed to make life easier for their customers. Instead of always having different standards for their respective mobile phones' sync, charge ports, data cables and earphones, it's been decided to go with just one standard. Most cellphone manufacturers have different ports to help boost accessory sales, but the Koreans, in their infinite wisdom, have come to understand that making life easier for the customer may actually boost sales, as well as subscriptions for services. |

Real Intelligence (RI) (Dec 14 2005 14:21 GMT) - In 1961, the astronomer Frank Drake devised a mathematical equation to determine how many intelligent, communicating civilizations exist in our galaxy. He established that in order to recognize (extraterrestrial) intelligence, one would have to be intelligent in the first place. Pentagon bravely vigilant against sinister, threatening Quakers (Dec 14 2005 14:19 GMT) - Cory Doctorow: NBC has published excerpts from a leaked Department of Defense document in which it is revealed that the Pentagon spied on a meeting of peace activists at Florida Quaker House and branded their work as a threat to national security. The DOD database obtained by NBC News includes nearly four dozen anti-war meetings or protests, including some that have taken place far from any military installation, post or recruitment center. One "incident" included in the database is a large anti-war protest at Hollywood and Vine in Los Angeles last March that included effigies of President Bush and anti-war protest banners. Another incident mentions a planned protest against military recruiters last December in Boston and a planned protest last April at McDonald's National Salute to America's Heroes -- a military air and sea show in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. |
