Say #!%* and Pay $$$ (Dec 14 2005 16:59 GMT) - I was just discussing this exact issue with my students yesterday. It's Not Too Late To Apply... (Dec 14 2005 16:59 GMT) - It is typical in the staffing industry to see a drop in job openings during the month of December. This december, however, has shown very little slow-down as it is clear that the economy is steadily improving. We are seeing more and more open jobs at a variety of skill levels and across many different industries. At this point, we suggest that if you are looking for employment or a career change that you prepare your resume and that you actively circulate it. For as much as staffing companies expect December to show a slow-down in activity, most agencies then expect a large improvement in job development with the opening of the new books in January. |

Chimpanzees Beat out Children in ... (Dec 14 2005 16:58 GMT) - Chimpanzees Beat out Children in Reasoning Test. caffeinemessiah writes "The New York Times has a story on how chimpanzees seem to exhibit a better understanding of cause and effect than human children. While training chimps to perform a routine task with redundant steps, the chimps were able to figure out and eliminate the redundant steps, while the human children routinely performed them despite their evident uselessness. It says something about the way we learn compared to chimps and should be interesting to cognitive scientists and those interested in computational learning theory, at the least." [Slashdot] The Times article requires registration, so I can't read any details on the children in this experiment, but I'd be willing to bet that they were inmates from a public school. |
