The product is expected to enable many Kiswahili speakers to master personal computing in the language. The development is expected to boost the people of East Africa's access to technology and give governments an opportunity to develop and expand the use of information and technology in their economies. Mr Isaiah Okoth, the General Manager at Microsoft East Africa, said users of the Kiswahili version at Microsoft Office 2003 could localise their interface by installing a Language Interface Pack (LIP) that is available on the Web. LIP converts the entire Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint - from English into Kiswahili. |
