End of the 80/20 rule (Dec 15 2005 20:55 GMT) - An MIT study has shown that many online shoppers value the availability of obscure items more than price. MIT Sloan School of Management Professor Erik Brynjolfsson claims to have found that the ability to find products online easily?particularly niche and obscure products?is nearly ten times more important than price alone when it comes to shopping online. git-0.99.9n-1 (Stupid content tracker, 10.4-transitional tree) (Dec 15 2005 20:55 GMT) - This is a stupid (but extremely fast) directory content manager. It doesn't do a whole lot, but what it _does_ do is track directory contents efficiently. It is intended to be the base of an efficient, distributed source code management system. This package includes rudimentary tools that can be used as a SCM, but you should look elsewhere for tools for ordinary humans layered on top of this. commit log from bcully: |

Maybe Scott Adams isn't so smart? (Dec 15 2005 20:55 GMT) - Scott Adams recounts on The Dilbert Blog: How to be a Marketing Genius how he offered a free downloadable version of his first book, "God's Debris" to see if it would help in the sales of his second book, and then concludes from the pathetic version of free downloads (170,000 + who knows how many people they shared their downloads with) vs. sales of the sequel in hard copy (under 1000) that people are only interested in free stuff. Buncha takers only interested in freebies, that's what WE are! Odd that he doesn't even consider any of the many possible problems with this analysis. |

Holiday Shipping Deadlines Approaching (Dec 15 2005 20:55 GMT) - When can you last order an item online and get it there in time for Christmas and the first day of Hanukkah? Part of the answer to that question depends on how much you are willing to pay. There are just a few days left before online retailers will start charging you extra for shipping. For many retailers this coming Monday (Dec. 19th) is the last day you can ship an item at regular shipping prices. |
