MS says 'no' to Xbox 360 HD DVD plan (Dec 15 2005 21:51 GMT) - Microsoft has said it has "no plans" to add HD DVD optical disc technology to its Xbox 360 console. "Microsoft, in both America and Japan, has not announced anything regarding the possibility of a next-generation DVD drive being placed in the Xbox 360," a company spokesman told gaming-oriented website IGN. Xbox 360, minus hardball? (Dec 15 2005 21:51 GMT) - Best Buy had a high profile on the night of the Xbox 360's debut, with Bill Gates launching the console at the retailer's Bellevue store. In the days that followed, however, there were customer complaints of questionable Xbox 360 sales tactics at some Best Buy stores -- with some salespeople reportedly telling people that they needed to buy extra accessories or services to get one of the consoles. That prompted an open letter of apology (PDF) from Brian Dunn, Best Buy's retail president. |

Xbox 360: not big in Japan (Dec 15 2005 21:51 GMT) - The Xbox 360 launched December 10 in Japan. And initial estimates for sales in the opening weekend are around 62,000 units, according to Japanese gaming magazine gurus Enterbrain/Famitsu (via Reuters). That's less than a third of the total Xbox 360s that Microsoft had available for the launch window. And, more shamefully, it's around a half of the 123,000 Xbox units Microsoft sold in the opening weekend for its original console launch. |
