JVC UX-HD1-M Mini System with hard drive (Dec 15 2005 23:38 GMT) - As far as I know - JVC UX-HD1-M Mini System would be the first one in the market ( don't get your hopes to high - Japanese market only) that embeds a hard drive and an ethernet port. This thing can connect to the Internet and download music from ANYTIME music store ( iTunes of Japan ) or just stream the files from you PC. Also, UX-HD1-M has a huge color LCD screen for managing 40Gb of music |

CheatDevice 0.4 for GTA LCS now works on 2.60! (Dec 15 2005 23:37 GMT) - Edison Carter has made yet another ground breaking hack for the PSP community and now his Cheat program for GTA is the first ever program to run on a PSP with firmware 2.60. With the very first programs coming out for 2.01+ already it looks like Sony will have to speed up their updates for their loved "must not be cracked" portable console. |

Samsung HP-R5072 50" Widescreen Flat Panel HD-Ready Plasma TV (Dec 15 2005 23:37 GMT) - Samsung HP-R5072 50" Widescreen Flat Panel HD-Ready Plasma TV"Samsung was founded in 1938 as a fish and fruit exporter on the Korean peninsula. Today Samsung has grown into a massive, multi-industry company and is a respected manufacturer of consumer electronics around the globe. By delivering lower-cost products that exceeded the quality of no-name manufactures but don't live up to the high-standards of first-tier manufacturers like Sony and Panasonic, Samsung has carved out significant market especially through sales in department stores and consumer electronics mega-stores. The Samsung SP-R4232 42-inch Plasma TV, though well designed and packed with a jaw-dropping array of inputs, comes up short in picture quality, a must have characteristic for a 42-inch plasma television. Darks were very good, as should be expected from a plasma display, and bright scenes displayed well too. |

iPod Carnage (Dec 15 2005 23:36 GMT) - With the news that Wall Street has downgraded RealNetworks, that will make four companies this year (along with Virgin, Thompson and Rio) that have directly or indirectly been run over by the iPod. The reason for RealNetworks downgrade? The Microsoft/MTV URGE announcement -- an effort aimed at Apple. As for the rest of the existing market, if this chart I found on MP3 Newswire is any indication, the picture isn't looking so good for them either. Whether all of this is a sign of the market getting rid of dead weight or just evidence that everyone else in the MP3 field is inept (or both), I hope some new players jump into the game. |

Wilderness Act Does Not Ban Mountain Biking (Dec 15 2005 23:35 GMT) - More than a year ago an extensive analysis of the Wilderness Act of 1964 and subsequent Forest Service regulations concluded that Congress did not intend to ban mountain biking in designated Wilderness, but the report?s conclusion has apparently been lost in the wind. It has done nothing to change the current policy banning fat-tired bicycles; nor has it done anything to cool off the debate between hikers and mountain bikers. The treatise authored by Theodore J Stroll, a staff attorney at the Supreme Court of California, examines in the greatest detail every word in the Wilderness Act, congressional testimony on the Act, and a series of regulations written by the Forest Service, the federal agency charged with management and enforcement of the Act. |

Midday open thread (Dec 15 2005 23:35 GMT) - The 2006 edition of the irregulars are officially on. I've got open posting through the end of the year, and they're already off to a strong start. I'm feeling good about this crew. Bush on tape, to Brit Hume: WMD's were irrelevant. |

The GOP 2006 gameplan (Dec 15 2005 23:35 GMT) - Hotline has the GOP gameplan for 2006. OK Rep. Tom Cole, a former RNC executive director, is telling colleagues that Republicans can prevent losses in the 2006 midterm elections if they successfully define Democrats as carping critics who favor surrender in Iraq, higher taxes and more government spending. IL-06: Duckworth v Cegelis (Dec 15 2005 23:35 GMT) - IL-06 looks set to host a bitter primary between grassroots star Christine Cegelis and decorated Iraq War vet Tammy Duckworth. I've expressed my admiration for Duckworth before, and I've been a fan of Cegelis since her first run in 2004. So I've got no dog in this race. Like the Ohio Senate Democratic primary, I feel that Democrats win regardless of who emerges from the primary. But, this is a classic insider-outsider race. |

More Purple Fingers, to What End? (Dec 15 2005 23:35 GMT) - Today's parliamentary election in Iraq has reportedly finished with limited violence and increased Sunni participation. After the polls closed this evening, electoral commission officials said that turnout could have been as high as 11 million out of 15.5 million eligible voters, more than in October's referendum, when many Sunnis boycotted the election. "There has been a wider participation by Sunni Arabs, so we expect the turnout to be higher," Mr. |

Mr. Bush, Your Coalition Is Shrinking (Dec 15 2005 23:35 GMT) - Italy has just announced its plan to continue its gradual withdrawal of forces in Iraq: Dec. 15 (Bloomberg) -- Italy's government announced the withdrawal of a further 300 soldiers from Iraq in January, less than four month before Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi faces elections. The reduction to 2,600 soldiers in Iraq comes three months after the first withdrawal of 300 troops, Italian Defense Minister Antonio Martino said today in a news conference in Rome. Back in March 2003, in the led up to the invasion, central to the war marketing campaign was the assembly of a "Coalition of the Willing" to deflect criticism that the US was taking unilateral action in Iraq. |
