[Techdirt] Partial Feeds, Glass Houses, And Things That Are Broken (Dec 16 2005 10:59 GMT) - Ok, while I generally like to avoid the random silly naval gazing debates within the blogworld, a few things all combined tonight in an amusing way -- and it seemed worth a post (if you disagree, and some of you will, sorry!). First of all, there's a long (painfully pointless) debate going on among a small group of people about whether or not bloggers should include the "full text" of their posts in the feed, or if it should just be a partial post that pushes people to load the actual page to read the whole thing. There are some people who claim they won't read a "partial feed," which seems a bit excessive. From our standpoint, obviously, we publish full content feeds, because we know people like them, and we'd rather our readers be happy than annoyed. |

Flying in the Slow Lane (Dec 16 2005 10:57 GMT) - Test Flying For Fun RC Aircraft and Helicopters Contrary to popular belief people who work in model shops dont spend all day every day playing with their own models However on Friday afternoon Dale and myself decided we were going flying with our own models We closed the shop dead on 6 oclock usually we dont leave till gone 7 We were cashed up loaded up and off to our own secret flying site in Kent by 630 We arrived at the flying field around 645 all models still intact after a mad dash along the A2 and some ratFlying in the Slow Lane Dogs distrust hot air balloons I gathered this tidbit as my husband and I floated over the mountains in a wicker gondola listening to the barking chorus that followed us even 3000 feet into the air The burner evokes canine protest but we had no problems as we drifted with the currents and contemplated the silent fog in its morning retreat over the hills We learned that a mere a six foot rise in altitude can change your direction if your vehicle is a hot air balloon We learn |

Hubble finds Mass of White Dwarf (Dec 16 2005 10:57 GMT) - Chris Bradshaw writes "The mass of the nearest white dwarf star to Earth has been measured accurately for the first time. from the article: 'Sirius B is just 12,000 km (7,500 miles) in diameter, similar to Earth, but its mass is 98% that of the Sun. Studying Sirius B has been difficult because of the bright light coming from its neighbour Sirius A, the "Dog Star." The results, published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, come from astronomers using the Hubble Space Telescope. |
