The future of Europe [Maurizio Morabito] (Dec 19 2005 16:33 GMT) - There will come the day when all those European Governments will tire of spending their time trying to build a consensus around every little thing the Union feels the need to unite about. The day after, they will finally agree on a new model, capable of accommodating not just 25 but 50 or even a 100 members, with Europe taking over, ahem, incorporating the whole of the Continent and nearby islands, as well the Russian Federation, Central Asia, the whole of the Middle East and Northern Africa, and why not, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and neighbouring States It will only take a small but strategical change of plan: instead of a Union of Discontents each one of them moaning about the taxes, compensations or rebates they have been forced to accept, it will be a Union à-la-carte |

Time's Persons of 2005 : Plan B (Dec 19 2005 16:33 GMT) - Realizing the potential blogger backlash1 by annoucing the villified Bill Gates as one of the person's of the year, Time Magazine developed what they called "Plan B." An alternate set of candidates2 and magazine cover3 which they would stealthily announce via quiet insertion into key RSS feeds and by gaming the Technorati search engine. Fortunately for you, my man on the street has a friend on the inside. |

Oh, the weather outside is... (Dec 19 2005 16:32 GMT) - ..not that frightful, actually. At least the winds that have been rattling my windows for days have died down, and the ice on the ground should soon melt, taking the sodden lumps of what was once snow with it. But... |

Blogging the BPM market (Dec 19 2005 16:32 GMT) - Before moving to the wonderful world of the consumer Internet, I have built, for about fifteen years, mission critical systems in the financial services market - in which you spend a ton of time (and money) integrating ?stuff?: front-office to back-office, buy-side and sell-side, transaction processing to risk management, etc. Originally using FTP or manually-written socket-based message transfers, these integration projects gradually started using Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) frameworks such as Tibco's ActiveEnterprise. These frameworks generally started by offering a messaging layer (a Message Oriented Middleware), on top of which were built gobs of features such as message transformation,... |

The Motorola Q: what I wanted for Christmas (Dec 19 2005 16:32 GMT) - Ever since I have gotten my hands on an SMT5600, I have been delighted by this phone as an email device, a camera, an MP3 player, etc. And it has convinced me that running Windows Mobile on a phone was the best way to ensure seamless interoperability with your Windows/Outlook desktop. However the SMT5600 is becoming a bit limited in terms of RAM capacity, quality of the camera and to some extent the fact that it is not ?wireless broadband? capable. |
