Beagle 2 found? (Dec 20 2005 06:41 GMT) - BBC news is reporting today that Colin Pilinger, the man behind the "ill-fated" Beagle 2 Mars probe, might have located either a) the crash site or b) the landing site of the probe. One "unique feature" suggests the lander smashed into the surface, leaving an impact crater, the other feature suggests the probe was exposed to the surface after its airbags opened as planned. I suppose the need for trust comes in when we for some reason need to verify an information source that is not immediately available to us. In the case of the "echo chamber" mentioned by Miguel which concerns adopting opinions within an insular social network, those would fall within the normative-evaluative realm, and are a question of values about how the world should work. |
