Economic Data Roundup 12-20-05 (Dec 20 2005 08:39 GMT) - As expected, the MPC again held rates at 4.5% at its meeting at the beginning of December – almost without exception, the MPC only ever changes policy in those months when revised growth and inflation projections from the Bank of England staff are available, the next one being February. That said, the intervening months are of interest because they are used to gauge the extent to which economic activity and inflation are moving relative to existing projections. The consensus expects the minutes to confirm that the no change vote was carried unanimously, but with inflation having fallen back to 2.1% in November and average earnings growth in the three-months to October, we should see several dissenters in January.. |
