Jargon Watch - ?Performant? (Dec 20 2005 09:59 GMT) - I know I've heard it before, but yesterday in a news conference I heard a vendor, referring to the high performance of a product, call it "performant." For example: "We're always working on optimizing code paths in order to make the product more performant." Now I'm as big a fan of free speech as the next guy, but what with the way the law is leaning in this country lately can't we just ban idiotic words like this? We don't need to get Congress involved, the President can just issue a secret order. |

Branding - a moment of epiphany! [Simon Morice] (Dec 20 2005 09:57 GMT) - Since I started to meet people in marketing I have become confused by the notion of a brand. Recently I have taken to walking the dog in the New Forest as he likes to compliment his exercise with horse poo takeaways and I enjoy the fresh air and relative absence of others of my species. He can explore the final frontiers of his gastronomy whilst my imagination can touch the stars. The other day as he was enthusiastically demolishing a suitably aged nutty chunk, I happened to notice a pony eating gorse or some such spicy treat as appeals to the equine palate. On it's blunt end was a logo delineated by damaged skin tissue and chaotic hair. |
