Now there are only three (Dec 20 2005 21:39 GMT) - On Remembrance Day / Veterans Day I noted that there were only 5 remaining Canadian WWI vets. A comment to that post noted that on Nov 26, Clare Laking passed away, leaving four. I just saw this post at the Monarchist that noted, One of Canada's last veterans of the First World ... |

A Return to a Savings Culture? [Martin Bamford] (Dec 20 2005 21:38 GMT) - It appears that we are all starting to save more again. Over the course of the last two years the amount of money being saved in building society accounts has increased by more than 25%. Man breaks world records with Antarctic swim (Dec 20 2005 21:38 GMT) - On 14 December, Pugh swam a kilometre in the seas off the Antarctic Peninsula at a latitude of 65º South, some of the world's coldest waters, where the sea's saltiness allows temperatures to dip to just below 0 ºC without freezing. The feat, which took 18 minutes and 10 seconds, required him not only to maintain a safe body temperature throughout the ordeal, but also to stave off the crippling effects of the body's natural reaction to icy water. |
