Universal Virus Database @ ThinkComputers.org (Dec 21 2005 07:39 GMT) - Quote: “In response to the recent article on viruses and after a long time spent fighting the various beasties as they have popped up over the course of the past decade or so, I have come up with a few ideas which I believe might help battle the problem and should be implemented and regulated nationally, if not globally. I call it the “Universal Virus Database” but really, it should include more than just viruses. The idea should cover all forms of malware, including spyware, adware, trojans and rootkit hacks.” Read the Article |

Intel 'Black Creek' 955X Motherboard @ Viperlair (Dec 21 2005 07:39 GMT) - Supporting the latest Dual Core CPU's from Intel will this desktop motherboard be suited for performance users? "Should you get this if you already have a 925X or 925XE board? Probably not, unless Dual Core support is important to you. If you don't already have a 925X or 925XE board then you may as well start at the top with a 955X. However think carefully, as while this is a good board, you will likely find more features and accessories with a slightly more expensive, or even cheaper third party manufacturer 955X boards. |

Logitech Z-4i 2.1 Speaker System Review at XYZ Computing (Dec 21 2005 07:39 GMT) - Snip: "For many people, tech-savvy and otherwise, a computer has become the center of their "digital life". The versatility of computers when dealing with multimedia has made them the obvious choice for all different sorts of users and media playback applications. Whether is music or movies or television, computers can do it all, so long as they have the help of a few add-ons. One of the most important of these is a good speaker system. |

Vonage - Problems with Linksys PAP2 and WRT54GX2 (Dec 21 2005 07:39 GMT) - The problems you are all experiencing are identical to mine (I own the same model of router) I've found that it is indeed related to the firewall. If you turn it off, the VT1005 works great. You can get your phone adapter to work with the firewall on, it's just a matter of how you sequence things. I've posted the solutions here: [url=http: |

Vonage - setup of Netgear WGR614 and Linksys RT31P2 (Dec 21 2005 07:39 GMT) - I followed this setup and it seemed to work great -- until I took an incoming call. When I am on the phone my Internet service stops working completely. Once I hang up I seem to have to completely reboot both the Linksys and the Netgear. Any ideas? Does the same happen without the netgear inbetween? |

Vonage - Is there a way to set up RTP300 with USB Modem? (Dec 21 2005 07:39 GMT) - No, it is not possible to convert a USB powered device with an Ethernet connection; because of the main reason you mentioned in your post, you need power to operate the device. Cheap ISP provider with poor internet network usually provides USB modems in an effort to limit your internet connection to one computer and to help them manage their bandwidth by providing you internet service only when you turn on your computer. However, you can connect your RTP300 phone adapter to your computer through the Ethernet connection and by creating a network bridge to share your internet service to the phone adapter. Then you can connect your telephone to the RTP300 phone adapter to get your VoIP line running. |

Vonage - Strange Caller ID numbers (Dec 21 2005 07:39 GMT) - I live in Edmonton and I use Simulring for my cell phone and the caller id numbers are (more often than not) (819) 340-1090 or (213) 291-0500. I am assuming that Vonage doesn't have enough local lines for the call to be completed correctly so they are routing them another way and paying the long distance. I hope they are able to correct the situation soon because it negates the purpose of caller id which I pay 5 bucks a month for on my cell phone! I too live in Edmonton and have experienced a weirdness only twice. Once the Edmonton Journal ( or a telemarketing firm on their behalf) and their caller id was " |

Vonage - Significant Service Problems Network Wide - Own up to it!!! (Dec 21 2005 07:39 GMT) - I don't know if my problem is related or deserves its own post, but here goes: I'm on an 8-day trip and have been calling home to my Vonage # a lot, mostly using my mobile phone. Almost every time I call home, call #1 I can hear my wife but she can't hear me, call #2 we both hear a fax machine sound on the line, and call #3 we hear each other. She said this has happened a few times this week from other callers so I doubt my mobile phone is the culprit. As I'm still on the road I can't run the tests or post my exact config, but it would be nice if Vonage would hurry up and fix the problem before my wife puts her foot down and makes me cancel the service. |
