New York Transit strike connectivity (Dec 21 2005 14:58 GMT) - Yesterday I posted a guess here that digital networking would be a significant new factor in this strike over the one I remember 25 years ago. There has now been speculation in some of the news coverage that many of the office workers who are staying home are "telecommuting." But some things are unchanged. I have now seen 2 pictures of people holding up handwritten signs. The most recent, on the front page right now of the New York Times is that of a smiling young woman standing on the curb holding up a sign that says: |

Reason #2 to Oppose Alito: Workers? Rights at Stake (Dec 21 2005 14:58 GMT) - The AFL-CIO and the Change to Win Coalition do not agree on much these days—but last week, both federations came out against Samuel Alito’s nomination for the Supreme Court, reflecting the seriousness of the threat that he would pose to worker’s rights on the nation’s highest court. |

A Fine Mess (Dec 21 2005 14:56 GMT) - Skip It The Movie I distinctly remember seeing Blake Edwards' A Fine Mess during its theatrical run in 1986. I may have been only 14 years old (inarguably the only logical demographic for a movie like this) but I knew enough to walk out of the theater bored, annoyed, and holding my nose in the universal symbol for "Dear lord did that movie suck." Allegedly intended to be a vehicle for the surefire comedic pairing of Burt Reynolds and Richard Pryor, A Fine Mess ended up starring Ted Danson and Howie Mandel. Danson and Mandel, in certain situations and in small doses, can be very funny guys ... but to jam 'em into a witless slapstick farce full of vaudevill-style schtick, rapid-fire stupidity, and lots of physical comedy, well, let's just say it's not one of the best casting decisions ever made. |

Nikon D200 Hands On Review At Ken Rockwell (Dec 21 2005 14:55 GMT) - Ken Rockwell has just taken delivery of his brand new Nikon D200 and shares his live test drive results with us. Ken writes: It's solid! It feels like an F100, not a Canon 5D or plasticy Nikon D70s. The command dials, front and back, are solid grippy rubber, not hard plastic. |
