Owner Built Compost Toilets (Dec 21 2005 22:53 GMT) - "Despite all the books on manure and how to use it, human manure composting is not covered elsewhere, making THE HUMANURE HANDBOOK: A GUIDE TO COMPOSTING HUMAN MANURE a fine reference for any who would learn these basics. Now in its 3rd edition, THE HUMANURE HANDBOOK covers all the basics of human waste management, from septic systems to commercial composting toilets, sewers, and more. A history of various composting methods, science, and problems is accompanied by a healthy dose of humor plus a solid foundation of science into pathogens, pros and cons of competing systems, and more. If you're an avid composter, there's nothing like this on the market. |

Pitchfork: Top 50 Albums of 2005 (Dec 21 2005 22:53 GMT) - And that's that for 2005. All that's left is for us to close out the year with our favorite part of this gig-- chirping at you about our favorite music. The year wasn't dominated by many overarching trends, but rather, a smattering of smaller themes: mewling, post-Modest Mouse/Arcade Fire vocalists, classic rock-influenced indie, trap-hop, psych-tinged ketamine house, continued cultural and genre cross-pollination, and a lot of love for our hometown, Chicago. |

StopATMFees.com (Dec 21 2005 22:53 GMT) - Consumers are tired of paying twice for one ATM transaction. First, your bank charges you $2 and shares it with the ATM owner. Then, the ATM owner charges you another two bucks as a surcharge. It's outrageous to get socked up to $4 for an ATM transaction that costs a bank only about a quarter. And we're not alone. |

Cu Chi Tunnels and Parallel Universes (Dec 21 2005 22:53 GMT) - For a long time, I have been interested in images of Cu Chi Tunnels. As you can read about in the following references, the Cu Chi tunnel system, built over 25 years starting in the 1940s, was an underground city with living areas, kitchens, storage, weapons factories, field hospitals, command centres. In places, it was several stories deep and housed up to 10,000 people who virtually lived underground for years... |

Helpline Comment (34727) (Dec 21 2005 22:52 GMT) - Derek, I think that laptop would be a good deal if you can get it for less than $50. The active matrix screen and sound blaster pro would make it good for games and the like. 8MB of RAM would make it sluggish under win9x though. On the subject of one's tastes in obsolete computers, I'm not interested in obtaining any more x86 PCs for the most part. I already have a 4. |

Foyle's War - Set 3 (Dec 21 2005 22:51 GMT) - Highly Recommended The movie The British program Foyle's War is turning out to be one of the most consistently good mystery series that I've seen. Perhaps it's because each season has only four feature-length episodes, meaning that each can be carefully constructed and nicely polished. In any case, the third set of Foyle's War continues the trend in Set 1 and Set 2: this is a high-quality series on all counts. Foyle's War is an interesting blend of historical fiction and traditional mystery. |

Pain: The Movie (Dec 21 2005 22:51 GMT) - Skip It Reviewer's Note: Due to this disc's incompatibility with several DVD-Rom players,no screen captures could be obtained for this review. If State Property 2 is the McDonald's across town (you know, the one with halfway decent service and clean floors), then Amir Valinia's Pain: The Movie (2004) is the run-down McDonald's you pass by on your way there. In short, this story of "life on the streets" is a low-rent version of an idea that was never that great in the first place. |

Nizlopi or X Factor?s Shayne For Christmas Number One? (Dec 21 2005 22:50 GMT) - A few weeks back there were many competitors for the honour of Christmas number one. Westlife were putting final touches on a grand single with the legendary Diana Ross, Crazy Frog was plotting a return with his inimitable version of “Jingle Bells,” and perennial competitor Robbie Williams was revving up with an Elvis Presley tribute. Are the Democrats Walking into a Trap? (Dec 21 2005 22:50 GMT) - Have Democrats walked into a trap regarding national security? John McIntyre at Real Clear Politics believes so. A small excerpt: One of the major problems working against Democrats is many on their side appear to be rooting for failure in Iraq and publicly ridicule the idea that we actually might win.
