Merry Christmas (Dec 23 2005 13:51 GMT) - As I write this, my wife is at a neighbours house helping a lady make a special Christmas meal for her husband. Yesterday she was making meat pies for an elderly gentleman in town who hasn't had Christams meat pie in many years. That's what Christmas is all about, help others whenever you can. For the Children in all of us. |

An XBox Miracle (Dec 23 2005 13:51 GMT) - We're usually cold, heartless, and snarky over here, but today is the day before Christmas Eve, so here's a tearjerker for you from reader Jason proving that even enforced scarcity can't beat down the spirit of giving: Grand Rapids, Michigan -- 12/22/05 After reading the post about the next Best Buy shipment, I decided to make a stop at one of 4 Best Buys in the area to see if I could score a 360 for someone in my office. Her son is autistic and playing video games is one of the few things he truly enjoys. She had been trying desperately for weeks to get a console for him. I had an early morning meeting and got to Best Buy after my meeting at about 8: |

Apple Aperture Review/Diary At Outback Photo (Dec 23 2005 13:50 GMT) - Apple's Aperture has an ongoing diary/review at Outback Photo and here is an excerpt from their diary. As of now Aperture does not support the latest cameras: - Canon 5D (we took our first pictures with a 5D 10/05/2005 and this is more than 2 months ago) - Nikon D200 (quite recent) We have this problem with many raw converters these days. With Aperture the situation is worse because the whole applications is so tightly integrated. Let's assume you run a studio and you are dependent on the Aperture workflow. |

Get something to work reasonably well (Dec 23 2005 13:50 GMT) - Think about this for a New Year's Marketing mantra: Tis better to get one generation tactic working reasonably well than to run off chasing the next cool thing. I'm guilty, I know most small business owners are, of chasing the next new thing. The truth is that most well-thought out marketing strategies will pay-off given your complete attention and a bit of time to take hold. My advice as you are making plans for 2006 is to find one or two good strategies and tactics at that most... |

Google Adds Music Search (Dec 23 2005 13:50 GMT) - Anyone that gets my Duct Tape Marketing weekly newsletter already knows that I'm a big music fan. Just for fun I recommend one album I like each week that same way I might a book or web site. The funny thing is that I even though my newsletter is about marketing, my readers love to comment on my music selections. I can't help but make a marketing point here. Sometimes it's the addition... |

Hand Made Paper Stuff (Dec 23 2005 13:50 GMT) - Sometimes, maybe it's the time of year, I get nostalgic for hand made paper things. All of the bits and bytes of emails and web sites occasionally leave me longing for the heft of a fine crafted ink pen. I've talked a lot on this blog about handwritten notes as a marketing tool. There's just something about the look and feel of an article you can hold in your hand and know that no one else has a copy of this exact thing. Here are 3 fun links for those who share, even temporarily,... |

Will Google Take Over the World? (Dec 23 2005 13:50 GMT) - Google announced last month the creation of something they call Google Base. This seemingly useful new tool allows anyone with an account to upload a database of products. I have a client that has an online hardware store so it seemed logical to upload his product database and see what happened. What happened was that... |
