France Set to Legalize P2P (Dec 23 2005 21:59 GMT) - A measure to legalize P2P file sharing has passed through France's lower house amidst a storm of protest from the country's film, music, and audiovisual industries. If the measure passes through the government's upper house, France would become the first nation to legalize P2P file sharing during a time in which most Western nations are attempting to reduce its widespread use. Introduced as a pair of amendments to a bill aimed at toughening the country's digital copyright laws, the vote passed by 30-28 at around midnight Wednesday night, with a vast majority of the National Assembly's 577 members absent. |

Back to studio for new single ? (Dec 23 2005 21:59 GMT) - GALLAGHER LETS BROTHER IN ON PLANS OASIS rocker NOEL GALLAGHER has plans to work on a new single written by his brother LIAM, but hasn't told him yet.Noel, the oldest of the rock siblings, knows it will take some persuasion to get Liam back into the recording studio after a year spent on the road, but thinks the song is too good not to release as a stand-alone single. He says, "Liam's got this tune that's left over from the sessions called THE BOY WITH THE BLUES, which he got in a right f**king a**e about and it could've been on the record."And I would like to - because we've got a month off in January, we've got all of January off - I'd like to get back into the studio to add a bit more to it."I haven't spoke to Liam about this. |

Ho Ho Ho Yourself (Dec 23 2005 21:58 GMT) - Yesterday Mike Arrington told me a story about a Silicon Valley pundit that reminded me that most of the people in the software business are putzes and that's why I moved out of Silicon Valley in 2003 and never once regretted it. Had to go to the post office yesterday and waited in line and everyone was ho-ho-ho'ing, and the radio was playing some Frosty the Snowman shit, and I was sitting there while every person who came in wished everyone a Merry Christmas as if this were a Jimmy Stewart movie and not downtown Berkeley. I had a good half hour to think about this while I waited. I thought to myself, you know I'm a pretty friendly guy, and that's 365 days a year, and most of these people are bastards most of the time, but could they really be this nice for a few days a year? Could I bring myself to ho-ho-ho along with them and not ask them if they'll be so holly-jolly in a couple of weeks? |

psync 0.2.3 (Default branch) (Dec 23 2005 21:58 GMT) - psync is a distribution mirroring utility. Its main goal is to be able to update a distribution mirror but keep it as consistent as possible. One of the main problems updating a mirror is that if the mirroring process is stopped for any reason, the mirror stays inconsistent: either some of the packages in the old databases were removed or not all the new packages were downloaded. psync aims to fix this. |

They set up in a plaza, and a large crowd assembles around them, so they decide to give a demonstration. The first guy jumps. He bounces at the end of the cord, but when he comes back up, the second guy notices that he has a few cuts and scratches. Unfortunately, the second guy isn't able to catch him, and he falls again, bounces and comes back. |

The ?Satanic Cartoons? (Dec 23 2005 21:58 GMT) - I have written a couple of times before about the very useful cultural confrontation with intolerant Muslims that occurred when Danish newspaper Jyllands Posten published some less than flattering cartoons featuring the Prophet Mohammed. Well in case you are curious what those cartoons actually looked like, here they are (sadly you will need a pop-up blocker and some anti-spyware defences because of where the images are hosted). If Salman Rushdie wrote the 'Satanic Verses' and... |
