- I was in the airport yesterday, flying home for Christmas, and there was a brand-new (to me) security apparatus. Instead of having their bags hand-searched, the people selected for advanced screening were stepping into a monster of a machine that would then shoot bursts of air at them. Presumably the air bursts are meant to dislodge any small particles of explosives, gunpowder, or other evidence of "questionable activities". These particles are then probably sucked into some analysis rig such as a Mass Spectrometer. I wonder what kind of detection limits they have? |
