A DUI can cost more than your license (Dec 29 2005 23:23 GMT) - Just a reminder for those planning on driving home from the party New Years Eve.Alcohol-related crashes annually cost society $45 billion, yet this conservative estimate does not include pain, suffering and lost quality of life. These indirect expenses raise the alcohol-related crash figure to a staggering $116 billion. Last year, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported in San Bernardino County, there were 138 alcohol-related deaths and 1,885 injuries. What makes it even more interesting is San Bernardino County was second only to Los Angeles County where 259 deaths were alcohol-related. |
