Trump vs. Spitzer for NY Governor? (Dec 31 2005 01:45 GMT) - The Donald is considering a run against Attorney General Eliot Spitzer in the 2006 New York Governor's race, according to Joseph Bruno, the state's Senate Majority Leader. Republicans are looking for a candidate with name recognition and money to take on the only announced Democratic candidate, state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer. Spitzer is far ahead of all candidates for governor in the early polls. I think the Republicans are dreaming, Trump won't do it....I just can't see him commuting, even by private jet, to Albany every day. |

Jews and Christians reading the bible : a forum, November 6-7, 2003 (Dec 31 2005 01:43 GMT) - 'Jews and Christians reading the Bible' is the record of a symposium which took place at Bryn Mawr College in November 2003. The forum took as its starting point the book by David Dawson, 'Christian Figural Reading and the Fashioning of Identity', using this (and scholars' responses to it) as a springboard into discussion of Jewish and Christian interpretation of sacred texts. In addition to a brief introduction to the subject matter, a copy of the conference program, and information about the participants, the site offers recorded webcasts of two of the presentations (those by Rachel Havrelock and Mark Vessey) together with the subsequent discussion. The site is attractively presented and easy to navigate, though it is perhaps a pity that the presentations and discussion are available only as webcasts: there are no transcripts or text versions of the papers. |

Baptist library online (Dec 31 2005 01:43 GMT) - The Baptist Library Online offers access to a range of important and hard-to-find texts by English and American authors in the Baptist tradition between the 17th and 19th centuries. Brief biographical information is included about key Baptist leaders whose work appears on the site, and a copy of the 1660 General Baptist Confession of Faith is available. Some texts can be read using a standard web browser, while others are offered as PDF facsimiles of printed editions. Also included is a short list of links to other related resources. |

Catholic online (Dec 31 2005 01:43 GMT) - Catholic online is a website offering information about the Catholic faith, plus related news and other items. The site offers a brief introduction to Catholic belief, plus sections on prayer and aspects of Catholic life. There is a sizeable hagiography (list of saints), although the information given about each saint is very brief, and another section gives information on Catholic beliefs about angels. There is also a substantial archive of articles on issues relevant to modern Catholic life, written chiefly from an American perspective. This is not always the easiest site to navigate: |
