Latinos are more likely to avoid HIV testing until they have full blown AIDS, compounding efforts to contain the spread of the deadly disease (Dec 01 2006 18:59 GMT) - Susan Abram: As World AIDS Day approaches Friday, local organizations remain challenged with encouraging Latinos to get tested for HIV, saying cultural misconceptions about how the disease is spread remains a stubborn problem. The study surveyed Latinos residing both legally and illegally in the Los Angeles area. Conducted by the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, the study found that 72 percent of those Latinos living with AIDS had been diagnosed less than a year after getting their first HIV test. By comparison, 35 percent of whites and 53 percent of blacks living with AIDS neglected to get tested less than a year before being diagnosed with the disease. |

ThomasKattus: This is a blog, there is no real content here. (Dec 01 2006 18:59 GMT) - Just got back in from spending the night at Evergray's house. It was a very enjoyable night. Good food, good company, and lots of nasty fun. Just what the TomKat needed to make his mood a little better. I pretty much was smiling from the moment I got there till we parted ways in the morning at Peet's coffee where I got a quad latte and a pastry to jump start me for the long drive home. |

Pyramid Stones Were Poured, Not Quarried (Dec 01 2006 18:57 GMT) - brian0918 writes "Times Online is reporting that French and American researchers have discovered that the stones on the higher levels of the great pyramids of Egypt were built with concrete. From the article: 'Until recently it was hard for geologists to distinguish between natural limestone and the kind that would have been made by reconstituting liquefied lime.' They found 'traces of a rapid chemical reaction which did not allow natural crystallization. The reaction would be inexplicable if the stones were quarried, but perfectly comprehensible if one accepts that they were cast like concrete. |

Bush Will Meet With Shiite And Sunni Leaders (Dec 01 2006 18:56 GMT) - Although it is about a year too late, at least the White House is engaging directly with the locals in Iraq. President Bush will meet with one of Iraq's most powerful Shiite politicians on Monday in a continued bid to find a new approach to ending sectarian violence that is pulling at the seams of the nation. Then, in January, the president will meet with the Sunni vice president of Iraq, a senior administration official said Friday. On Monday, Bush will meet with Abdul-Aziz al-Hakim, leader of the United Iraqi Alliance -- the largest bloc in the Iraqi parliament, said National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe. Bush is ignoring al-Sadr and trying to split the Shiites by meeting with the pro-Iranian al-Hakim, who controls the Badr Corps, which is the primary rival to al-Sadr? |
