Guantanamo Express Route to Torture (Dec 03 2006 23:20 GMT) - Insulting the Knock Shrine and victims of torture Bengemin Disraeli said that there were three kinds of statistics- Lies, Lies, and damn Lies. The Irish Government has been manipulating statistics of late. So now we are told there were only 6 complaints made by peace activists about suspicious US aircraft at Shannon? There were at least 60 such complaints, many in writing and many more verbal. Shannon Gardai now claim that it is necessary to come to Shannon Garda station to make a complaint, otherwise they refuse to acknowledge it. |

Conscious Conservatism (Dec 03 2006 23:19 GMT) - There are Neoconservatives, and President Bush tried to establish a Compassionate Conservative label, but the development that may ease us toward the light at the end of this national sewer we are in is the growing Conscious Conservative movement. The 45th reunion (Dec 03 2006 23:19 GMT) - In the old days, high school reunions left me hung over. Today, they leave me hoarse. At the 10th and 20th reunions, it was all about breaking into old cliques and drinking your way through your own personal high school highlight reels. Last week, at the 45th, it was all about talking to everybody with a nametag on, with a subtle double-clutch from the past into the present tense. There must have |

New brother to the club (Dec 03 2006 23:19 GMT) - Fascinating, this week, to read the story by New York Times travel writer Joe Sharkey, of his experience on an airplane he believed might crash. The jetliner crashed, killing all on board, but Sharkey?s story tells how his damaged aircraft was able to stay airborne until they |

Front Page Values (Dec 03 2006 23:19 GMT) - People are so funny. They have no idea how a newspaper does its job. Last week, stripped across the top of our local paper, The San Diego Union-Tribune?s Letters page, were letters whining about some of the U-T?s recent choices for front-page stories. |

Gallery: Ladies of the LA Auto Show (Dec 03 2006 23:19 GMT) - Filed under: LA Auto Show Los Angeles puts less emphasis on the ladies (compared to, say, SEMA or VIP) and more focus on the cars, but there were still some stunning sirens around the Convention Center this week. Here is a small sampling, mainly from Ferrari, Lamborghini, and the Redline movie displays. And although we shouldn't have to warn you, if you don't have anything nice to say, please say nothing at all. Models read Autoblog too, after all. |
