Memo To Parents: Fire All The Experts, by Tony Zizza (Dec 06 2006 04:49 GMT) - Just when I thought our culture couldn't possibly coddle our young people even more to everyone's detriment, an article in the Northside section of the Atlanta Journal Constitution newspaper proved me wrong. Banks lobby govt on smartcard (Dec 06 2006 04:40 GMT) - AN alliance of banks and electronic payment firms has begun publicly lobbying the federal government to deliver its $1.1 billion human services smartcard over private networks with the claim it would cost $500 million to replicate existing systems. The newly-formed Australian Smartcard Users' Forum also claimed it would cost the government a further $60 million a year to maintain a payments network comparable to that operated by the private sector However, it has remained cagey on how much it would charge the federal government to use privately-owned infrastructure to process human services access card transactions. |
