Brightonnet Cylindrical Active Speaker: Pretty, But No Boomtube (Dec 06 2006 20:59 GMT)

- Take an aluminum pipe, stuff a tiny 2.2-watt amp and a couple of speakers inside and you have a cylindrical active speaker from Brightonnet Japan that works with just about any iPod. The speaker draws power from a PC's USB port or runs on a quartet of AAA batteries, and is pleasingly portable at just 7 inches long, weighing in at a light six ounces. These little portable speakers, available December 11 for $26, remind us of the Boomtube speakers that have proven themselves invaluable in our adventurous outdoor jaunts in warmer climates, but then those lightweight yet cradle-rocking 40-watt babies cost $155. They're not nearly as pretty as these, but who cares;

James Kim Found Dead (Dec 06 2006 20:57 GMT)

- Law enforcement officials have confirmed that James Kim has died. Friends of the family have set up an unofficial PayPal donation page, though they warn you that they haven't talked to the Kim family about it yet. The thought is that the family can decide where to send the money after it's collected. It looks like you have to go through their page to make the donation, so if the page is busy, keep trying to get through. We'll keep you updated on other ways you can show your support as we find out.

DIY pocket tripod (Dec 06 2006 20:56 GMT)

- Filed under: Gear, DIYInstructables, home to many previously linked DIY projects, features instructions on how to assemble your own pocket tripod. We're talking a really low tech, no flair tripod that uses a few wires and some electrical tape, so this might not be entirely useful for serious camerawork. In fact, it's probably better suited to a small still camera, if anything. But anyway, maybe you'll find some useful application for this thing.

I want to give you an accurate account of what happened but it is important that I do so without saying negative things about Ben or mentioning anything about his personal life. Even though he left this band in a most inconsiderate manner I will show him the courtesy that a "friend" of seven years deserves.

TurboGrafx the most downloaded Virtual Console games? (Dec 06 2006 20:55 GMT)

- Filed under: Retro, Nintendo WiiAccording to participating members of the NeoGAF Virtual Console sales thread, Bonk's Adventure tops the list of the most purchased games on Wii's download service thus far. Intuitively, one would think Nintendo and/or Sega would dominate this unofficial data, but TurboGrafx games make up three of the top five selling titles on the survey with mostly NES and Genesis titles filling up subsequent spots.While it should be noted this forum is largely made up of rabid gamers like you and I, could this just be early (or new found) excitement for less accessible Hudson games? As one Game|Life commenter wisely pointed out, both Nintendo and Sega have repackaged and re-released most of their hits into oblivion, whereas TurboGrafx games on the Virtual Console represent a first for retro-minded gamers seeking Hudson classics.
