CC Labs (Dec 08 2006 06:55 GMT) - My CC fundraising letter this week describes the launch of CC Labs -- a test bed for new CC technologies. There's a new licensing engine that emphasizes more clearly the freedoms you're enabling. Toggling through the options gives you a very clear sense of the contours of the CC licenses. The most important experiment, however, is also the hardest to describe. We've begun testing an architecture that will enable people to specify (in the metadata attached to the license) where to go for rights, or stuff, beyond those specified in the license. |

Andrew Symonds and Adam Voges (who?) make Australian Test squad (Dec 08 2006 06:49 GMT) - The hits just keep on coming as Andrew Symonds and Adam Voges have made the Australian Test squad. "Adam who?" you may ask. No offense to Voges and I confess I haven't been that up-to-date on the domestic season but I hadn't even heard of the guy until today. I can only imagine the selectors in Perth were about to announce the squad when they were hit with the Damien Martyn bombshell - luckily, Western Australian Voges was walking past the hallway at that moment to hastily fit the newly vacated spot. |

Damien Martyn retires (Dec 08 2006 06:49 GMT) - The Ashes have delivered another shock almost as big as Adelaide Day 5 as Damien Martyn has announced his retirement. His statement:"I would like to advise of my retirement from cricket, effective from today. I do so with a deep awareness of the opportunities that the game and Cricket Australia have provided for me. However, I'm also aware of the tremendous challenges facing Australian cricket including this current Ashes series. |

Are England big game chokers? (Dec 08 2006 06:49 GMT) - There's a great photo at Pommy Tragics of a Sydney bus ad that simply says "The Poms are going to choke" (thanks to Tom for the link). Sage words, indeed! And it begs the question - are England big game chokers? Pressure is a funny thing. Before the series, England claimed the underdog tag, said Australia were under pressure and they have nothing to lose. |

Brett Lee's account of Adelaide Day 5 (Dec 08 2006 06:49 GMT) - Brett Lee has penned his experience of Day 5 of the 2nd Test. It's a wonderfully detailed insider account of one of the best days in Australian cricket that I can remember. They talk about Steve Waugh's century at the SCG where he reached 100 on the last ball of the day being "One Perfect Day" (it's even the title of the DVD commemorating the event). However, the gloss went off when Waugh was dismissed the next day without adding to his score and we were heavily beaten by the Poms. A perfect day for Steve Waugh maybe, not so much for Australia. |

Parents obsess with mobile messaging and ignore their kids (Dec 08 2006 06:46 GMT) - Parents obsess with mobile messaging and ignore their kids, reports the WSJ, spawning a generation of resentful children. "As hand-held email devices proliferate, they are having an unexpected impact on family dynamics: Parents and their children are swapping roles. Like a bunch of teenagers, some parents are routinely lying to their kids, sneaking around the house to covertly check their emails and disobeying house rules established to minimize compulsive typing. ... |
