Just joined... next step? (Dec 11 2006 02:33 GMT) - Hey guys... I've been enjoying the TG 2142 servers the last couple weeks as well as the company of all the TG folks. I enjoyed things enough that I'd love to be a paying supporter, so I'm subscribing to the monthly dues as of today. The Frankfurt District Court ruled on November 23, 2006 in the matter 2-03 O 172/06 on the legality of commercially provided abstracts of book reviews under German copyright law. It found in favor of the web publisher of abstracts who based his summaries, including rare verbatim excerpts, on paper-based and web-based material published by a national German newspaper, reportedly Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. The court noted that the abstracts did not infringe the paper's copyright. |

On November 24, 2006, the second chamber in Berlin, Bundesrat, approved a bill to amend two statutes on the transfer of foreign prisoners to their home countries. The amendments facilitate the return of sentenced persons so that they may resocialize in their home environment and to permit the execution of sentences of convicted persons who flee the jurisdiction. In the latter case, the sentencing jurisdiction would traditionally request the extradition of the criminal. |

A case and desist demand sent in response to an unsolicited fax to a business made it all the way to the Supreme Court in Karlsruhe. On June 1, 2006, the court decided that such a fax is illegal and the business may demand the cessation of such transmissions as well as the reimbursement of legal fees. |
