Corrupt Quicken data files need fixing [Farhan (MagiTam) Rehman] (Dec 14 2006 00:25 GMT) - Hi folks! I was wondering if there's anyone out there who can help... We're working on OSX, with Quicken, and we have file that is "corrupt". The backup file is timestamped with yesterdays date, and time, when the office shut down - but when we open it, some of the times it gives an error message, and other times, it opens it, with a months data missing. We had this problem with this file before, and manually re-entered all the information. |

Secret Assassin's Creed plot slipped by Veronica Mars star (Dec 14 2006 00:25 GMT) - Filed under: PC, Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, Action, AdventureSpeaking with IGN TV about her role in Assassin's Creed, Veronica Mars star Kristen Bell offered a surprising take on Ubisoft's upcoming title:"It's sort of based on the research that's sort of happening now, about the fact that your genes might be able to hold memory. And you could argue semantics and say it's instinct, but how does a baby bird know to eat a worm, as opposed to a cockroach, if its parents don't show it? And it's about this science company trying to, Matrix-style, go into peoples brains and find out an ancestor who used to be an assassin, and sort of locate who that person is. |

ATRS to make entering / exiting vehicles easier for handicapped individuals (Dec 14 2006 00:24 GMT) - Filed under: Robots, Transportation, WirelessWhile there's certainly smart enough wheelchairs to get you around town without mauling a lamppost or taking out a crowd of bystanders, a Pennsylvania-based team has developed a system to get wheelchair-bound individuals in and out of their cars a lot easier. Engineers at Lehigh and Carnegie Mellon have partnered with robotic startup Freedom Sciences LLC and Freedom Lift Corporation to unveil the Automatic Transport and Retrieval System, which will supposedly "enable wheelchair users to drive while sitting in standard automobile seats that meet federal safety regulations." Currently, motorists are forced to use cumbersome, bolt-in attachments that typically require heavy modifications to the car in order to operate; the ATRS system, however, uses remote controls, wireless technologies, and "lasers" to assist drivers into a standard seat, roll their wheelchair "autonomously" to the loading dock, and close up the rear door, all while parked in the driver's seat. |

Knowing Knowledge (Dec 14 2006 00:20 GMT) - George Siemens' online book Knowing Knowledge is fun to read: It's laid out like a Tom Peters book -- full of graphics and different type fonts, and some wonderful quotations1. It has a kind of stream-of-consciousness style that's a bit McLuhanesque. It's playful. I resisted the temptation to take notes and synthesize it (perhaps because I read it on-screen), although I thought it sometimes presented concepts awkwardly and had a few glaring omissions. |
