Woman arrested for Hicksville baby dumping (Dec 15 2006 17:59 GMT) - A nanny in an upscale Long Island neighborhood is under arrest, charged with the death of a newborn. It wasn't the child she cared for as a nanny, but it was her own. The infant was found two weeks ago at a LIRR station in Hicksville. Eyewitness News reporter Stacey Sager has more from Nassau County police headquarters in Mineola. The nanny is a 34-year-old Brooklyn woman who was working as a live-in nanny and taking care of a four-year-old girl in Woodbury. |

Silent whispers for help (Dec 15 2006 17:55 GMT) - Troubled man of constant sorrowUnderneath your shell you seem so hollow You pushed me out in the coldSo why do I still hold on?I see you walking in circlesYou seem more lost than me, how can that be?I tell myself not to careThat it’s only in my troubled headThat you’re running around scared But truth is I need you to be fineIt doesn’t matter that I never can call you mineAfter all you’re the ghost haunting my mindYou’re the lost thing I can’t seem to findA memory of an unfilled dream frozen in timeForever you’ll be my burden to bearYour silent whispers for help I’ll always hearBut I can’t answer you because you won’t let me near |

Reason #13 to vote for Pharyngula (Dec 15 2006 17:46 GMT) - This will be my last plea for your vote, to the relief of many. My next comment on this subject will be a miserable concession speech glorious in-your-face crow of triumph, after all the votes have been counted and validated. We're behind right now, but I'm sure there will be a last-minute rush to the polls to save me. I think it's time to up the ante a bit. Since Phil's doom is imminent, perhaps we need a little wager, just to make everything more interesting. |

Chameleon USB: We Roll Our Eyes at Thee (Dec 15 2006 17:45 GMT) - Taking a nosedive into absurdity and back, we bring you the USB-powered eye-rolling chameleon, and it's not even a storage device like that mutt humping the USB port that robbed us all of our precious dignity earlier this week. No sir, no such prurient mirth here. This is just a plug-in USB ornament that rolls its eyes while sticking its tongue out. Over and over. So there it is, gripping your PC or a pencil or something cylindrical with its little legs, and it's not even able to change colors. |

It's a Microwave, It's a Vase: It's The Microwave Vase! (Dec 15 2006 17:35 GMT) - Here's a nice little piece of concept art that's both functional and pleasing to the eye, which is a bit of a rarity. Dubbed the Microwave Vase by designer Woo Seokmoon, it's a combination microwave and vase that's supposedly going to be all the rage with those young urban professionals out there. In its default setting, the Microwave Vase looks like nothing more than a regular vase; once food is placed inside and the top knob is adjusted for time, then it becomes an actual microwave, cooking your food in a heartbeat. When the food is finished, the little green leaf on top lights up to let you know that your meal is ready. |
